Assistant Lighting Designer Goals -The person who holds this position commits to a production from the beginning of the production process through the end of the production's run. The Assistant Lighting Designer's duties will vary depending upon the needs of the Production but will always include assisting the Lighting - Designer with the completion of the wish list, completion of the light plot and accompanying paperwork, assisting the designer with light focus (including taping the stage and preparing pertinent paperwork for the designer), completion of the Lighting Designer's magic sheet, and attendance at all technical rehearsals and preview performances. Please read below for a detailed list of responsibilities.


Production Meeting and Design Process:

  • The Assistant Lighting Designer should attend all production meetings that his/her class schedule will permit. The Assistant Lighting Designer will work with the Lighting Designer, as needed and according to the Lighting Designer's instructions, to complete the necessary research, wish-list, rough light plot, light plot, magic sheet, cue track, follow-spot track, and other presentational elements required to complete the lighting design.

Pre-Hang Week:

  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will assist the Electrics Shop by answering questions during the pre-hang process according to the Lighting Designers instructions.
  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will update the light plot and paperwork during the hang and focus period according to LD instructions.

Hang Week:

  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will assist the Electrics Shop by answering questions during the hang process according to the Lighting Designers instructions.
  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will update the light plot and paperwork during the hang and focus period according to LD instructions.

Focus Week:

  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will meet with the Lighting Designer to schedule focus times and discuss the Assistant Lighting Designer's specific duties during focus.
  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will update the light plot and paperwork during the hang and focus period according to LD instructions.

Cueing:

  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will assist the Electrics Shop by answering questions during the hang process according to the Lighting Designers instructions.
  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will update the light plot and paperwork during the cue-writing period according to LD instructions.

Technical Rehearsals and Preview Performances:

  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will update the light plot and paperwork during the technical rehearsal and preview performance period according to LD instructions.
  • The Assistant Lighting Designer will attend all technical rehearsals and preview performances. The Assistant Lighting Designer's will obtain his/her specific duties from the Lighting Designer prior to the first technical rehearsal

ME Goals - Have skills necessary to execute lighting a show from design drawings through opening, including executing all necessary paperwork.  Have working knowledge of Tech process, including encountered design challenges.  Have ability to manage a small crew of 5-6 technically competent students through the hang and focus process.  Have ability to schedule rental pickup/return, supply delivery for a show.

Pre-hang:

  • Develop paperwork from plot
  • Develop Color and Pattern Orders from plot
  • Confirm equipment inventory and rental needs
  • With Electrics Coordinator (EC) plan special projects for show
  • With EC plan Hang/Focus/Show/Strike coverage
  • Maintain accurate paperwork through process
  • With EC maintain accurate budget information

 Hang:

  • Hang/Circuit/ Patch the show
  • Gel/Pattern the show prior to focus
  • With EC develop crew schedule for Focus/Cuing/Tech
  • Acquire rentals and purchases
  • Install focus necessary equipment prior to focus
  • Maintain list of notes and act to complete notes promptly

Focus:

  • Prior to initial Focus call conduct “error free” channel check
  • With EC assist LD/ALD in running focus calls
  • Insure all necessary lighting equipment is ready for focus
  • Maintain working list of notes and plan execution of notes with EC 

Cuing:

  • With EC ensure crew coverage of cuing process
  • Assist as LBO or FSO as needed
  • Maintain list of working notes and plan execution of notes with design team 

Tech/Dress/Shows:

  • With EC ensure nightly show coverage
  • Prior to Tech and Opening conduct venue survey with EC to insure no safety/sight line issues of lighting equipment
  • Conduct routine channel checks, including checking focus
  • Maintain daily communication with EC concerning show problems and needs

Strike and Post-strike:

  • With EC supervise lighting strike
  • Ensure damaged equipment is brought to attention of EC
  • Insure all equipment is returned promptly, including rentals
  • Meet with EC/Lighting Faculty to discuss show process, learning experience, and future opportunities

AME goals- Have a working knowledge of lighting paperwork.  Have the skills necessary to lead a team 2-3 in tasks associated in execution of a lighting plot.  Have a working knowledge of process from design presentation through opening. Learn the skills necessary to take on the roles as an ME.

 

Pre-hang:

  • Work with ME/EC to complete pre-hang setup work from the paperwork
  • Pull color and template patterns
  • To provide accurate notes to ME for paperwork updates

Hang:

  • With ME Hang/Circuit/ Patch the show
  • With ME Gel/Pattern the show prior to focus
  • Execute special projects assigned by ME/EC
  • Execute notes promptly and help maintain an accurate list of notes

Focus:

  • With the ME prior to initial Focus call, conduct “error free” channel check
  • Prior to 1st Focus call, prep any necessary focusing materials (i.e. frost)
  • Assist with any changes made to lighting plot during the focus call

Cuing:

  • Assist as crew coverage for LBO and FSO or stage walker during the cuing process
  • Assist with any changes made to lighting plot (i.e. refocusing units)

Tech/Dress/Shows:

  • With ME/EC ensure nightly show coverage
  • Assist in routine channel checks during scheduled show coverage

Strike and Post-strike:

  • With EC and ME supervise lighting strike
  • Ensure venue workspaces are clean and clear of lighting inventory and materials
  • Meet with EC/Lighting Faculty to discuss show process, learning experience, and future opportunities

479 Electrician Goals- The person who holds this position commits to a minimum of 40 hours of work for the production from the beginning of the light hang process through the end of the production's run and through strike. Should the Electrician reach his or her minimum number of hours, the Electrician is still required to attend the light strike. The Electrician's duties will vary depending upon the needs of the Production but will always include hanging lights, dropping color, patterns, and light accessories, circuiting, and focusing lights. These duties begin during the hang week but may continue through Technical Rehearsals, Preview Performances, and/or all Performances during the run of the Production. Please read below for a detailed list of responsibilities.

Pre-hang Week:

  • The Electrician will schedule all his/her work hours for the production with the Electrics Coordinator.
  • The Electrician will meet with the Electrics Coordinator to complete the necessary training for hanging, circuiting, and focusing of the light plot.

Hang Week:

  • The Electrician will hang, circuit, patch, and drop accessories for all lighting units in the production according to the Master Electrician's instructions.
  • The Electrician will install all equipment necessary for Focus according to the Master Electrician's instructions.
  • The Electrician will maintain a list of notes regarding the hang, circuit, and patch of the show in an effort to clearly communicate with electricians arriving later in the day.


Focus Week:

  • The Electrician will attend focus calls as his/her class schedule permits.

Technical Rehearsals and Preview Performances:

  • The Electrician will attend notes calls as his/her class schedule permits.

Strike:

  • The Electrician will attend the duration of strike as scheduled by the Electrics Coordinator
  • The Electrician will strike all equipment according to the Master Electrician's instructions.
  • The Electrician will ensure that any damaged equipment is brought to the attention of the Electrics Coordinator.

Light Board Operator Goals - The person who holds this position commits to a production from the beginning of the light hang process through the end of the production's run and through strike. The LBO is responsible for all light board operation including running the light board during focus, cue writing, rehearsals, and performances. Please read below for a detailed list of responsibilities.

Pre-hang Week:

  • The Light Board Operator (LBO) will meet with the Electrics Coordinator (EC) during the organizational pre-hang week to schedule and complete the necessary training for proper board operation.

Hang Week:

  • The Light Board Operator (LBO) will meet with the Electrics Coordinator (EC) during the light hang week and complete the necessary training for proper board operation.

Focus Week:

  • The Light Board Operator (LBO) will attend the design run-through according to the Lighting Designer and/or Stage Manager's instructions and familiarize themselves with the production.
  • The Light Board Operator, following the design run through, will meet with the Lighting Designer and obtain from the Lighting Designer the cue-writing times.
  • The Light Board Operator will attend focus calls as his/her class schedule permits and run the light board during those calls.

Cueing:

  • The Light Board Operator will run the light board during cue writing sessions as his/her class schedule permits.
  • During Technical Rehearsals and Preview Performances:
  • The Light Board Operator will run the light board during all technical rehearsals and preview performances. In addition, the Light Board Operator will arrive at the theatre at least 10 minutes prior to all call times produced by the Production Stage Manager.
  • The Light Board Operator will run the light board during all channel checks scheduled by the Master Electrician and the Stage Manager. o The Light Board Operator (LBO) will run the light board during the Lighting Designer's note sessions as the LBO's class schedule permits.

Performances:

  • The Light Board Operator will run the light board during all performances. In addition, the Light Board Operator will arrive at the theatre at least 10 minutes prior to all call times produced by the Production Stage Manager.
  • The Light Board Operator will run the light board during all channel checks scheduled by the Master Electrician and the Stage Manager.

Strike:

  • The Light Board Operator will attend the duration of strike as scheduled by the Electrics Coordinator.
  • The Light Board Operator will strike all equipment according to the Master Electrician's instructions.
  • The Light Board Operator will ensure that any damaged equipment is brought to the attention of the Electrics Coordinator.

Follow Spot Operator Goals - The person who holds this position commits to a production from the beginning of the light hang process through the end of the production's run and through strike. The Follow Spot Operator's duties will vary depending upon the needs of the Production but will always include preparing and operating one or more follow spot lights during all Technical Rehearsals, Preview Performances, and Performances during the run of the Production. Please read below for a detailed list of responsibilities.

Pre-hang Week:

  • The Follow Spot Operator will meet with the Electrics Coordinator to schedule and complete all electrics training necessary for the Follow Spot Operator to complete his/her duties during the run of the Production.

Hang Week:

  • The Follow Spot Operator will meet with the Electrics Coordinator and complete all electrics training necessary for the Follow Spot Operator to complete his/her duties during the run of the Production.

Focus Week:

  • The Follow Spot Operator will attend the design run-through according to the Lighting Designer and/or Stage Manager's instructions and familiarize themselves with the production.
  • The Follow Spot Operator will meet with the Lighting Designer to schedule cue-writing times and discuss the Operator's Follow Spot Cue Track.

Cueing:

  • The Follow Spot Operator will operate the follow spot for the Lighting Designer during cue writing session as the Operator's class schedule permits.

Technical Rehearsals and Preview Performances:

  • The Follow Spot Operator will run the Follow Spot during all Technical Rehearsals and Preview Performances.
  • The Follow Spot Operator will arrive at least 10 minutes prior to all call times provided by the Stage Manager.

Performances:

  • The Follow Spot Operator will run the Follow Spot during all Performances.
  • The Follow Spot Operator will arrive at least 10 minutes prior to all call times provided by the Stage Manager.

Strike:

  • The Follow Spot Operator will attend the duration of strike as scheduled by the Electrics Coordinator
  • The Follow Spot Operator will strike all equipment according to the Master Electrician's instructions.
  • The Follow Spot Operator will ensure that any damaged equipment is brought to the attention of the Electrics Coordinator.

Deck Electrician Goals - The person who holds this position commits to a production from the beginning of the light hang process through the end of the production's run and through strike. The Deck Electrician's duties will vary depending upon the needs of the Production but will always include operating electrical equipment on or behind the stage during all Technical Rehearsals, Preview Performances, and Performances during the run of the Production. Please read below for a detailed list of responsibilities.

Pre-hang Week:

  • The Deck Electrician will meet with the Electrics Coordinator to schedule and complete all electrics training necessary for the Deck Electrician to complete his/her duties during the run of the Production.

Hang Week:

  • The Deck Electrician will meet with the Electrics Coordinator and complete all electrics training necessary for the Deck Electrician to complete his/her duties during the run of the Production.

Focus Week:

  • The Deck Electrician will attend the design run-through according to the Lighting Designer and/or Stage Manager's instructions and familiarize themselves with the production.
  • The Deck Electrician will contact and/or meet with the Stage Manager to obtain his/her call times for rehearsals and performances and obtain his/her specific production duties.

Technical Rehearsals and Preview Performances:

  • The Deck Electrician will perform all production duties.
  • The Deck Electrician will arrive at least 10 minutes prior to all call times provided by the Stage Manager.

Performances:

  • The Deck Electrician will perform all production duties.
  • The Deck Electrician will arrive at least 10 minutes prior to all call times provided by the Stage Manager.

Strike:

  • The Deck Electrician will attend the duration of strike as scheduled by the Electrics Coordinator
  • The Deck Electrician will strike all equipment according to the Master Electrician's instructions.
  • The Deck Electrician will ensure that any damaged equipment is brought to the attention of the Electrics Coordinator.

Projectionist Goals - The person who holds this position commits to a production from the beginning of the light hang process through the end of the production's run and through strike. The Projectionist's duties will vary depending upon the needs of the Production but will always include preparing and operating all projection equipment during all Technical Rehearsals, Preview Performances, and Performances during the run of the Production. Please read below for a detailed list of responsibilities.

Pre-hang Week:

  • The Projectionist will meet with the Electrics Coordinator to schedule and complete all electrics training necessary for the Projectionist to complete his/her duties during the run of the Production.

Hang Week:

  • The Projectionist will meet with the Electrics Coordinator and complete all electrics training necessary for the Projectionist to complete his/her duties during the run of the Production.

Focus Week:

  • The Projectionist will attend the design run-through according to the Lighting Designer and/or Stage Manager's instructions and familiarize themselves with the production.
  • The Projectionist will contact and/or meet with the Stage Manager to obtain his/her call times for rehearsals and performances and obtain his/her specific production duties.
